Sinatramugshot

Tommy Gunn is dead, long live sinatramugshot!

My recent lack of posts is due to my new busy schedule and I no longer have the time to do this properly. Therefore I have created a Twitter account where I will upload all of my new album links for y'all. At the end of the week or month I'll then list them all on here in a single post.

See you on the other side!

The Bloody Beetroots - Romborama

it's been a while bitches! the first time i listened to this album i thought it was pure filth (in a bad way) but randomly yesterday i gave it another go and now i think it is pure filth (in a gooooood way!). granted there are some filthy (bad) songs on here but at the same time there are some amazing bass heavy pure filthy (good) tunes! better dj is an insane track that makes me smile, but there are also a few very cool chilled songs. give it a whirl...

Miike Snow - Miike Snow

this one is hard to describe and pigeonhole and to do so would not really do it justice. however, i will try... it is sometimes funky, sometimes disco, sometimes glitchy, sometimes dancey, sometimes beatles-esque (Faker), sometimes police-esque (faker). it is a big mix of different genres styles and sounds blended together perfectly. very very highly recommended. one for fans of fischerspooner and earlier soulwax.

The Bronx - Mariachi El Bronx

the bronx are an l.a. based punk band who have teamed up with some mariachi and latin musicians to create mariachi el bronx; a mexican-american mariachi band. now, i don't profess to be a fan of the bronx nor do i know anything about mariachi music (my knowledge extends as far as the maverics) but i can say this is something very different and in my opinion very cool! it is surprisingly relaxing and well worth a bash.

Simian Mobile Disco - Temporary Pleasure

now don't get me wrong, smd's last album was good but i personally don't think it was as good as it was bigged up to be. there were some quality tracks on there but it was too short and it wasn't all fantastic.

on first listen this album sounds better and more consistent (surprising considering the number of collaborations). i love the glitchiness of ambulance (almost a bit of a donk in there) and 10000 horses can't be wrong reminds me a bit of a slagsmalsklubben/chemical brothers collab, while listening to cream dreams just makes me so upset that neon neon will not do another album. highly recommended this one...

Golden Silvers - New Romance

i didn't think i'd like golden silvers but i'll level with you, i do. i'm not the hugest fan of the title track but some of the songs on here are great! imagine if arctic monkeys and brian wilson teamed up and wilson gave the artic monkeys some of his pills then it would sound like this. very very good, relaxing and...

I'm back motherbitches!!!

so, because noone took me up on my offer and i hate my new job so much i have decided to start doing Tommy Gunn again! now, i'm a bit rusty so to kick off the second coming i am going to cheat a bit. i discovered this blog today and it has two sensational albums on it that you must downlaod. So i've linked to the posts, don't worry this wont become a regular occurrance.

80kidz - This Is My Shit

Very cool album indeed. One for fans of justice etc... but also its a bit more trancey at times (similar to deadmau5 in places) and a couple of songs remind me a teeeeency beeeet of slagsmalsklubben. arab hertz club is a brilliant song and reminds me of prefuse 73 chiled. so, click the link

Birdy Nam Nam - Manual For Successful Rioting

now, i heard about these a while back and remember not being that impressed. well boy is my face red! red with embarrassment and squeamish joy!!! again for fans of the usual (daft punk, justice...) but it has that extra bit of edginess and difference that makes them stand out. (see comments for link)

Anybody want a blog?

with great sadness i must announce that i will no longer be able to continue with Tommy Gunn! i have got a new job that will not offer me the luxury of daytime blogging and feel i won't have the time to do it anymore. if anyone would like to take over, email me tommy.gunn100@gmail.com and i will gladly relinquish it (if you can handle the crypton-factor style quiz and assault course).

much love!

Adam

(yes, as surprising as may be my name isn't actually Tommy Gunn and that is not a picture of me!)

Metronomy - A Thing For Me (Blackout Crew Remix)

i have died and gone to heaven! this is arguably the greatest thing on earth...EVER! not only is it a metronomy remix, nor a blackout crew remix, but it is a blackout crew remix of metronomy and it is sensational. a slightly odd combination? yes. unconventional? yes, but they called woody allen unconventional when he wore a lobster bib in the shower and now look at him. download this now!!!

as if you needed further proof of how cool metronomy are, check them hanging out with bloody karl lagerfeld!!!

The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die

right first of all i've got to say, who do the prodigy think they are? they are blatantly ripping off hadouken! on this album. ha ha only joking!

anyway back to business, its been a long time coming but it is finally upon us. i love love luffed always outnumbered never outgunned and have to say invaders must die does not disappoint. it is very old school in parts and also heavy and energetic. well worth a dabble i must say! if you've heard the singles you know what you are going to get.

Fischerspooner - #1

after not listening to fischerspooner for a couple of months i randomly decided to put them on again and i almost had an eppie! i had forgotten how good they were! great to listen to regardless of your mood and they are guaranteed to get your head nodding and mouth smiling. if you don't know fischerspooner or haven't heard much then you must download this! if you like daft punk, soulwax, peaches, goldfrapp, the presets, lcd soundsystem or cut copy then this is for u. i wouldn't say fischerspooner sounded exactly like any of the aforementioned bands, but they have a similar vibe and are definitely a case of riyl. DO IT!

M83 - Saturdays = Youth

i heard an m83 song a couple of weeks ago and was distinctly unimpressed! then i heard kim & jessie and i was all like, "whoa!" and shit. i instantly fell in love with it! it sounded like something straight out of donnie darko and i couldn't get enough of it. so i downloaded the album and was blown away! its like a giant mix of bat for lashes, air, sonic youth, kate bush and the teenagers (if they were serious and sad). highly recommended, it is fantastic mood music!

South Central - Owl of Minerva

BAM!!! happy new year motherkissers! to kick the year off with a bang i am going to hook you up with a brand new album (from last year). i really do not know how this one slipped through the net! i heard it on radio 6 music just today and instantly went to their myspace, downloaded the album and blogged the shit out of it. if i had heard this last year i think it may have possibly made the top 10, it would have at least got a mention. one for fans of crystal castles especially the remix album (listen to crystaling, its in the name really...), the whip, justice and the like...

(re-upped. the files are in wav. so if you want them on your ipod put them into itunes and it will automatically convert)

Top 10 of 2008

the definitive top 10, look nowhere else. all you needed to know about 2008 is right here. there were a few albums that very narrowly missed out on this post, namely friendly fires, hercules and love affair and bloc party. generally, a good year for music i would say. shame blackout crew didn't release an album, fingers crossed for '09!

The Top 10...in order no less!!!

Metronomy - Nights Out

undeniably my favourite album of the year. metronomy have touched me in a way i only usually let my girlfriend! and for that, i love them.

The Teenagers - Reality Check

second space was a close call with crystal castles only narrowly missing out. there is something about this album that keeps me coming back for more. i have peter riordan to thank for the teenagers! thanks pete.

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

again, another album that i cannot go without listening to for long. if their remix album had been an official release i think it may have also made it in here.

Late of the Pier - Fantasy Black Channel

top stuff! i tried so hard not to like them but it just was not possible.

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Angles

still one of my favourite ever live acts. the more i listen to this the more i like it.

The Presets - Apocalypso

when i first downloaded this album i listened to it quite literally non-stop! i overdid it a bit, but they are still right at the top of my most played list on my ipod after months and months of not playing it.

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak

i love kanye! a slightly different direction, very moody and sad but fantastic all the same. sadly i cannot find a link for this one at the moment.

Foals - Antidotes

hours of fun can be had listening to foals...

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

another band that i tried not to like but i couldn't help it.

Bonde do Role - With Lasers

i first stumbled across bonde do role a couple of years ago when chromeo supported them in sheffield and i was as impressed then as i am now...very! they were fantastic live, more energy than a power bar (although they couldn't eclipse meeting pee thug and dave 1). if css and m.i.a had a mass orgy, it would sound something exactly like this. personally, i prefer this to both css and m.i.a but thats just my opinion on the matter.
